Call to Worship – 3rd January 2021

Welcome to Church

If you are visiting with us today, we welcome you as we worship the one true God, giving Glory to God the Father through our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ and in the power and grace of the Holy Spirit.

A few weeks ago I spoke on the reason why Jesus came…

Luke 19:10 Jesus said “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the Lost”

That was us!

Ephesians 2:1-10 says we were dead in our sin. Without hope, rejecting God and living our own lives, fulfilling our own desires.

V4 “But God being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ.”

V10 “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”

Let us pray, So, today we come to worship you, our one true God, eternal, immoral, invisible God, the creator of all, and the Saviour to all who place their trust in you through Jesus Christ our Lord and King. In the Name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit Amen

Hebrews 4:14-16 Jesus the Great High Priest

14 Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.

16 Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Communion

In Israel we see three distinct offices that God put in place over the nation

The prophets, the priest, and the king

  • The prophet, spoke God’s words to the people
  • The Priest offered sacrifice, prayer and praise to God on behalf of the people
  • The king ruled over the people as God’s representative.

The people in these offices were flawed and often failed miserably in them. Some did their best of course; others abused their power.

But These three offices pointed to one man who would one day hold all three.

Jesus Christ who came to seek and to save the Lost. Was victorious over death and sin. He came to be the Lamb of God, laying down his life on our behalf, so that in him we have life. He also came to be our prophet, priest and King…
