The Lord’s Supper – 30th August 2020

The Following are my notes when I led The Lord’s Supper on 30th August 2020. You are very welcome to use all or part of this in any way.

Our Vision following Jesus in community, teaching others to do the same.

We want to be a people who Love God, love others and make disciples.

In the WORLD – great division over everything!

We are called to be different…

John 17:22-23 in Jesus High Priestly Prayer “The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one, I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me.”

We are to be united in CHRIST,

Two commands that Christ has given us reinforce this unity: Baptism and Communion.

Baptism – symbol that our old life is dead and we are a new creation in Christ. Born again into one family

Communion – reminds us of the death and resurrection of Christ. That he died for our sin. We are united in his death and have a living hope in his resurrection! We are to do this until when???  – until he comes again!

Communion is a great leveller

It doesn’t matter your soco-economic status, ethic group, whether your rich or poor, slave or free. In fact in the New Testament church the Slave owner and the slave came to the same table! We are all one in Christ.

People groups who had previously hated each other were now united together in Christ in the bond of love and shared together at the Lords table.

We were all dead in our sin! But we have been made alive in Christ, by God’s Grace alone, through faith alone in Christ alone.
